Jennings Sound & Vision, an independent family run business, first opened a high street store in 1998. This was predominantly a service repair facility with a small retail area supplying models from manufactures such as Philips, Kenwood and Hitachi. However the history of the company goes back to 1996 when Bob James formed James Hemmings Service Ltd, a service company repairing high end audio visual products.
As an employee-controlled trust, we’re a diverse, customer-orientated team, united by a passion for music and movies. Our stores contain a remarkable number of budding musicians, DJs, and film buffs, fanatical about great sound and vision. We recruit based on natural friendliness, rather than high-pressure sales skills. All our teams are audio-visual enthusiasts and experts (seriously – they train themselves on new products continuously). They’re here to find a perfect match to your needs and budget, big or small, and to think of the things you may have missed, enhancing your overall home entertainment experience.

Our Founder and MD, Julian Richer began buying and selling hi-fi separates at school when he was 14. In 1978, aged 19, he opened his first shop on London Bridge Walk with the help of the late Vic Odden, a photography retailer. In May 2019, he handed control of the business over to an Employee Owned Trust, so Richer Sounds is now controlled and majority owned by the people who work in the company. We now trade from 52 stores nationwide, online and through our telesales and business to business departments. We may have started in budget hi-fi, but in more recent years we have also gained a significant reputation in TV, home cinema systems and premium audio.
If it produces high-quality sound, we know all about it.

From tiny earphones to huge room-filling systems, we can help you find something to fulfil every audio need.

Whilst we love audiophiles, our passion is welcoming newcomers into this world of astounding sound. So do come visit, and let us demonstrate something which will guarantee the goosebumps.

Our love of home cinema changed our company name.

Ever since Yamaha introduced their first 3-channel DSP system in the 1980’s, Unilet Sound & Vision (then called Unilet Products Ltd) have been all over the demonstration, installation and after-sales support of quality home cinema products – and were perhaps the first UK outlet to build a dedicated home theatre demonstration room on our premises, too.

From adding a 24-inch LCD display to a kitchen, right up to the design & installation of a 2.40:1 ratio projector screen in a dedicated home cinema suite (including a full-array Dolby Atmos™ loudspeaker system to accompany the immersive visual experience) – we have done it all, and can help you at every step of the way.
We are a family business, established in 1970.
