Our strategy
At our company, we call our strategy our "roadmap". This goes well with our origins as world travellers, bringing back the most beautiful designs

Hello and welcome to our Den. The Den & Now was founded by me, Charlie – a northern lass who strayed south to work in the fast-paced fashion industry for a little over a decade, before returning home to my roots.

I come from a creative and art background and have always been pulled towards all things home and interior design related. A subsequent move back up North and a house renovation marked the start of an exciting new chapter and in the summer of 2014, The Den & Now was launched from my own little den in the beautiful city of Chester, where I live with my husband and two young sons.

I've always loved mixing one-off vintage pieces, full of natural character and nostalgic charm, with contemporary Scandinavian and industrial style design to create unique living spaces - which is where our name The Den & Now comes from, ‘the then and now’ (the past and present). The Den being a play on words and meaning a hidden home, a secret lair, somewhere you can retreat to that is special to you.

What sets us apart is that we really do care about what we do - from sourcing products that we believe have a unique design or quality and offering a bespoke personal shopping service for our customers, to taking care in wrapping each individual product to ensure that your order is delivered to your door with care. As a business we're also continuing to make a conscious effort to become more sustainable, from the product ranges that we offer to the eco-friendly packaging we use.
JYSK is an international retail chain that sells 'everything for the home'. JYSK is owned by the family behind Lars Larsen Group. Founder, Lars Larsen, is known throughout Denmark as the country's leading merchant who always has 'a great offer'.

In 1979, when he opened his first store in Denmark in Denmark's second largest city of Aarhus - where, incidentally, it is still located - Larsen had great ambitions, though he never imagined how quickly his business would grow. Larsen went on to open several successful JYSK Sengetøjslager (the original store name until 2001) locations throughout Denmark, and in 1984 he opened his first store beyond the country's borders, in neighbouring Germany.

Today the JYSK Group comprises more than 2,800 stores in the following 52 countries worldwide: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland, Canada, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Romania, France, Great Britain, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Armenia, Indonesia, Montenegro, Greece, Albania, Vietnam, Malta, Portugal, Georgia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Moldova, Belgium, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Ireland, Cyprus and Azerbaijan.

The group's annual turnover is 3.79 billion euros. Growth is stable and controlled, and the total staff consists of around 24,000 employees.

The word 'JYSK' has always been intentionally included in the company name. In Danish 'JYSK' designates anything or - like Lars Larsen - anybody from the Jutland Peninsula, and it is often associated with modesty, thoroughness and honesty - three values that Larsen himself has always identified with. JYSK stands for trustworthiness, and a deal is always a deal.
